Balloon Hut,
Kahurangi National Park

Surrounded on three sides by trees, Ballon Hut has a sunny verandah and a nicely renovated interior. With 14 bunks, it has the usual long-drop toilet, outdoor sinks and a wood burner. One of the tables doubles as a draughts board with large wooden playing pieces.
It costs $15 to stay at Balloon Hut, and you’ll need to purchase a serviced hut ticket before you go.
