Flora Hut,
Kahurangi National Park

Flora Hut is full of rustic charm. Built in 1927 with separate men’s and women’s bunk rooms, it’s one of only a few DOC huts to retain this layout. The two bunkrooms are no longer strictly sex-segregated. Each has six bunks and an open fire, and they’re separated by a large wood store. The long-drop toilet is a short walk from the hut, and water can be collected from the nearby Flora Stream or the outdoor tap if it’s working.
It’s free to stay at Flora Hut.
