As its name suggests, Lakehead Hut sits at the head of a lake, Lake Rotoiti, to be exact. Unfortunately, being set back from the shore means this hut does not have the lake views you might expect. That said, it’s still a pleasant hut, with one large room combining sleeping platforms (with space for 28 people), a wood burner and a kitchen area. There’s an indoor sink and the usual long-drop toilet outside.
Staying at Lakehead Hut will cost $25, and you’ll need to purchase a serviced hut ticket before you go.
