Moerangi Hut,
Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park

Moerangi Hut is elevated above a tributary of the Moerangi Stream in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park. The hut looks out across the valley and is a good place to spot native wildlife, such as North Island kaka, a type of native parrot.
The hut has nine bunks in three tiers, a wood burner and an outdoor long-drop toilet. There’s a verandah, where the sink is located, and plenty of space for camping on the deer-clipped grass surrounding the hut.
Staying at Moerangi Hut costs $10, and you must purchase a standard hut ticket before you go.
