Positioned right on the shore of Lake Rotoroa, Sabine Hut has splendid views across the lake to the distant foothills. Despite being tucked into the forest edge, the hut still feels airy, with a large kitchen area overlooking the lake. The hut has a wood burner, indoor sinks, and two separate bunk rooms sleeping 32 people in total.
There’s a radio in the hut, which you can use to arrange a water taxi to Rotoroa, as the trail along the shore of the lake is closed. The Lake Rotoroa Water Taxi picks up and drops off at the nearby jetty.
Staying will cost $25, and you’ll need to purchase a serviced hut ticket before you go.
